Nippon Pulse Introduces New SS Series Linear Shaft Motor

LSM is Highlighted by Forcer that is 50mm in Length, Offers Greater Range of Movement

RADFORD, VA –- Nippon Pulse has announced the release of its newest linear servomotor, the L250 SS-series Linear Shaft Motor. The new SS-series is highlighted by a forcer that is 50mm in length, significantly reducing the length that had been offered on the standard L250 motor. The standard L250 forcer length ranges from 120-210mm.

By reducing the size of the forcer to just 50mm, Nippon Pulse has provided the user a longer range of movement than has previously been available.

In addition to a greater motion range, the SS series also features a large non-critical air gap, up to 5mm, which allows easier and more flexible machining and installation. Users of the SS series do not have to be as precise with alignment and have flexibility over the length of the stroke. The larger air gap is also beneficial in applications that may cause build up on the shaft, extending the time in between needed maintenance.

Other features of the SS series include available stroke lengths of 100-3,750mm, continuous forces of up to 24N, and a peak force of up to 94N. The motors also feature a back EMF of up to 4.5 V/m/s and rated forces of up to 17N.

Nippon Pulse’s Linear Shaft Motor has three basic concepts. It is simple, consisting of only a magnetic shaft and a forcer. The motor is also high precision, taking advantage of its ironless make-up to offer zero cogging, while giving complete stiffness. Being non-contact, the shaft motor has a non-critical air-gap that eliminates variation in force over the entire stroke of the device.

Revolutionary and Robust MILE Encoder from Maxon Precision Motors

Small, robust and accurate, maxon motor’s inductive micro encoder is a milestone in encoder technology with a diameter of 6mm.

The general basis of inductive encoders is that the inductance of one or more coils changes in relation to the material used. For example, a semi-circular iron core representing the material measure could be directed to a coil which then changes its inductance. However, there are drawbacks to simple inductive encoders, such as the temperature dependence of the soft iron/ferrite. External magnetic fields can also change the permeability of the material used, well below saturation point.

This is why highly accurate inductive encoders are ironless. The contrast is generated with eddy currents. These encoders have long been featured in large motors, but have not been produced for micromotors until now. maxon motor has invested heavily in the development of these greatly miniaturized inductive encoders. The result is the MILE, an inductive encoder where the contrast is generated with eddy currents. maxon’s Inductive Little Encoder is the smallest of its kind in the world.

The new MILE encoder delivers 64 pulses at up to 120,000 rpm, has 3 channels, line driver and integrated commutation outputs. Typical areas of application are medical technology, robotics and industrial applications in harsh environments. The MILE is available in combination with the EC6 Brushless DC motor, extending the length of the combination by only 1mm.
