Introducing the World’s Smallest Multi-Turn Absolute Kit Encoders

Miniaturized device features accuracy, robustness and a zero-maintenance rotation counter – all in a 22 mm diameter package

Size matters, and in the world of industrial automation, providing exceptional performance in a highly compact package can be an enormous advantage. With this in mind, encoder manufacturer POSITAL has unveiled a fully functional prototype of their new miniature multi-turn kit encoder for integrated motor feedback. With a diameter of only 22 mm and a height of 23 mm (0.87”/0.9”), the new device is the world’s smallest multi-turn kit. It features a self-powered rotation counter that does away with the need for backup batteries or complex gear systems. POSITAL’s extremely trim 22 mm magnetic Kit Encoders are designed for builders of servomotors, feedback-controlled stepper motors, microdrives, miniature robots and other machines where high-precision position feedback is required and space is at a premium.

Posital Miniature Absolute Kit Encoder

Like their ‘big brothers’, the new 22 mm kits are reliable, accurate and simple to install. Unlike resolvers, they cover a multi-turn measurement range and provide digital output. Compared to optical kits, they are more rugged and more resistant to contamination by oil, dust or moisture. They offer 17-bit electronic resolution and a multi-turn measurement range of up to 32 bits. Vendor-neutral SSI and BiSS C interfaces are supported. Installation of the 22 mm kits is very straightforward and can be done under normal factory conditions. Integrated self-calibration simplifies commissioning. The combination of robust magnetics, high operational reliability (with an integrated temperature sensor for diagnostics), multi-turn functionality and maintenance-free operation all help to reduce the cost of ownership.

New Harmonic Drive FHA-C Mini 24V Servo Actuator with Dual Absolute Encoder and Panel Mount Connectors!

— FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —

Harmonic Drive FHA-C Mini 24V Servo Actuator

Introducing Dual Absolute encoder versions of the FHA-C mini actuator, featuring BiSS-C bi-directional communication for both encoders.  The dual encoders are incorporated in essentially the same package size as the long-standing FHA-C mini single incremental encoder version. Without increasing the size, the dual absolute encoder offers single turn absolute position at the output, without the need for battery back-up.  Panel mount connectors come standard, and customers can choose between 4 exit options.

The FHA-C mini Series is a family of extremely compact actuators that deliver high torque with exceptional accuracy and repeatability.  The actuator combines a high precision Harmonic Drive® gear component with a pancake brushless servo motor.  A single turn 14 bit (16384 cpr) gear output encoder has been integrated along with a single turn 14 bit (16384 cpr) motor input encoder providing a true absolute encoder that does not require a battery within 360° of rotation of the output.  Typical multi-turn encoders monitoring the motor input shaft require a battery to store the current position when power is lost to the system; however, the dual absolute encoder overcomes this need.  In other words, No Battery Required. When power is restored the actuator knows its position.

Features include:

  • Zero backlash
  • Incremental, Absolute or Dual Absolute Encoder
  • 24VDC winding
  • High-torque/weight and torque/volume ratio
  • Optional flex-rated cables with sealed connectors

New 20mm Linear Stepper Motor now available from Nippon Pulse

RADFORD, Va. – Nippon Pulse is excited to introduce its smallest linear stepper motor yet, the PFL20 Linearstep. The PFL20 is a highly efficient, high thrust tin-can linear actuator with a 20mm diameter and a bipolar winding.

PFL20 is RoHS-compliant, has a 30/60mm effective stroke, and can reach 6 N of force at 200 pps. With 24 steps per revolution, the lead screw has a 1.2mm thread pitch; the PFL20 also reaches 5V rated voltage, resistance of 33 Ohms/phase and inductance of 12mH/phase. The datasheet with additional specifications can be found here.

The simple structure of Linearstep motors – just a threaded rotor hub and lead screw – helps to save space and reduce costs, due to fewer components needed compared to systems that convert rotary motion to linear. Linearstep motors are also easy to control, and can be ordered with unipolar or bipolar windings and a variety of usable voltages. In addition to the 20mm motor size, this motor is also available in 25mm (captive or non-captive option) and 35mm diameter sizes.

Nippon Pulse’s tin-can linear actuators, including the Linearstep, are also available for customization; contact an applications engineer to learn more about our customization capabilities.
