New Harmonic Drive FHA-C Mini 24V Servo Actuator with Dual Absolute Encoder and Panel Mount Connectors!

— FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —

Harmonic Drive FHA-C Mini 24V Servo Actuator

Introducing Dual Absolute encoder versions of the FHA-C mini actuator, featuring BiSS-C bi-directional communication for both encoders.  The dual encoders are incorporated in essentially the same package size as the long-standing FHA-C mini single incremental encoder version. Without increasing the size, the dual absolute encoder offers single turn absolute position at the output, without the need for battery back-up.  Panel mount connectors come standard, and customers can choose between 4 exit options.

The FHA-C mini Series is a family of extremely compact actuators that deliver high torque with exceptional accuracy and repeatability.  The actuator combines a high precision Harmonic Drive® gear component with a pancake brushless servo motor.  A single turn 14 bit (16384 cpr) gear output encoder has been integrated along with a single turn 14 bit (16384 cpr) motor input encoder providing a true absolute encoder that does not require a battery within 360° of rotation of the output.  Typical multi-turn encoders monitoring the motor input shaft require a battery to store the current position when power is lost to the system; however, the dual absolute encoder overcomes this need.  In other words, No Battery Required. When power is restored the actuator knows its position.

Features include:

  • Zero backlash
  • Incremental, Absolute or Dual Absolute Encoder
  • 24VDC winding
  • High-torque/weight and torque/volume ratio
  • Optional flex-rated cables with sealed connectors

Harmonic Drive LLC introduces harmonic planetary gearheads

Harmonic Drive LLC, a leader in high precision motion control adds Harmonic Planetary HPG gearheads with helical gearing and low reduction ratios to its current planetary gearhead lineup.  Harmonic Gearhead products are available with quick lead times.Harmonic Drive HPG-R Gearbox

The new models, HPG-R, add low-speed ratios from 3:1 through 10:1 including all integer ratios in between.  HPG-R employs helical gearing for improved noise reduction and higher torque capacity.  Ideal for a variety of machinery and equipment designs, these new models enhance the already successful HPG series.

Harmonic Drive HPG-R GearboxA special design of the HPG internal gear allows a preload of the gear and enables it to slightly deform elastically thus maintaining low backlash for the life of the gearhead, without any need for adjustment.  This preload not only minimizes backlash but also compensates for interference between meshing parts.  The result is low backlash for the life of the gear, without any backlash creep.

Like all Harmonic Planetary gearheads, the HPG-Helical gears feature Quick Connect coupling for easy mounting to any servo motor.  They are also available with flange output, shaft output without key and shaft output with key and center tapped hole.

SHA-CG Hollow Shaft Actuators from Harmonic Drive LLC

Harmonic Drive LLC, a leader in high precision motion control introduces new actuators with surface run-out less than 10 microns. The SHA-CG  models are the newest offerings in the company’s Rotary Acutator product category.

Harmonic SHA-CG Actuator

Harmonic SHA-CG Actuator

The SHA-CG actuators feature a compact, hollow shaft configuration for design versatility in demanding applications. Ideal for machine tool applications, the SHA Series of brushless actuators provide high torque for fast acceleration and positioning. SHA-CG actuators are composed of a Harmonic Drive® CSG zero-backlash gear combined with a brushless servomotor with an encoder resolution at the output up to 20,971,520 pulse/rev.

The actuators are also available with an optional brake. Positional accuracy better than 1 arc-min and repeatability better than ±5 arc-sec is achieved while delivering up to 3,400 N m of torque. A robust cross-roller bearing allows mounting of large loads directly to the actuator without the need for additional support.

The SHA-CG has a Torque to Weight ratio as much as 8 times greater than comparable housed direct drive motors, and a Torque to Volume ratio as much as 6 times greater. This allows for a more compact and light-weight machine design.

Known for its expert engineering and manufacturing, Harmonic Drive LLC products are relied upon every day for precision motion control.

C. Walton Musser. The Inventor of Strain Wave Gearing

In 1955 C. Walton Musser invented the strain wave gear.  His precision reducer design includes only 3 parts, yet offers Zero Backlash, High Accuracy and High Torque to Weight Ratio and together with the USM Corporation perfected the mechanics of the strain wave gear, and commercialized it in 1960 forming the Harmonic Drive division of USM.  The Harmonic Drive division grew to become the Harmonic Drive Group Companies, the worldwide leader in motion control with 3 manufacturing facilities in Japan, USA and Germany serving local and global companies.

In this highly visual 5 minute YouTube Video, C. Walton Musser’s life and legacy is illustrated.
