JVL Integrated Motors Feature Fast and Easy Setup for Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradley PLC

Birkerød, Denmark – After the successful introduction of the complete range of ServoStep integrated motors JVL is now releasing Add-On-Instructions for fast and easy setup and programming in Rockwell Automation’s Studio 5000 software.

All-in-one unit: Motor, Absolute multiturn encoder, Drive, Controller, PLC and Ethernet Switch as well as TÜV-approved STO option.  The integrated design with the controller in the motor minimizes the size of the control cabinet.  With less components in the cabinet, the cooling requirements will be lower, reducing both system cost and running costs.

JVL´s ServoStep motors offer state-of-the-art performance that in some applications can rival servo motors at a lower cost.  The high torque at low speeds make compact solutions without gear possible.  The ServoStep family offers up to double power in same size

compared to similar motors, due to higher current/voltage and advanced regulation.

JVL’s closed-loop ServoStep technology eliminates loss of steps and never stalls.  The technology causes a paradigm shift that changes your perception of what you can do with a stepper motor.  Ultra-high torque enables direct drive without gearing.  The motor

series also has current control, which lowers power consumption and allows 100% duty cycle without overheating.  The ultra-high step resolution of 409,600 step/rev decreases acoustic noise and results in a smooth-running motor.

The wide speed range from 0 to 3000 rpm can be adjusted in increments of 0.01 rpm.  Due to automatic tuning, programming is fast and easy.

The motors have 8 programmable inputs/outputs: each can be set up as digital input, digital output or analog input. Motors are equipped with EtherNet/IP interface and as option you can choose STO (Safe Torque Off) versions.

The motors are perfect for multi-axis applications and format adjustments where high positioning speed is required. Due to ultra-high torque, no gear is needed.

For end-of-line packaging and food and beverage applications enclosure class IP65 can be delivered.

To fulfil the demands for diagnostics and easy maintenance in factories of the future the motors are designed for IIoT and are Industry 4.0 ready.

The motors include a 2-port Ethernet switch to reduce wiring in daisy-chain configuration (DLR). Several LEDs enable technicians and operators to get a quick status overview.

To save time, Add-On-Instructions are available for Studio 5000. It makes commissioning fast and easy and the motors can be set up in 5 minutes or less.

Industrial Ethernet: 

The motors have the ability to be upgraded with other protocols or newer versions of the same protocol at any time. Because of the upgradeability, the JVL industrial Ethernet interface is also ‘future proof’ as newer versions of the protocols will always fit into the design. The user can switch between Profinet, EtherCAT, Powerlink, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP and SERCOS.

The World’s Most Compact 3000 W Integrated Servo Motor

Birkerød, Denmark – JVL, the European leader in the development of integrated servo and stepper motor technology, has now again developed a new and unique product in the field of integrated motor control.  JVL’s newest additions to their portfolio is a complete, high-capacity MAC motor® with rating of 3000W.  MAC motor®s are complete servo systems including a high-dynamic AC servo motor, hall-sensors, encoder, power supply, driver and positioning controller and Nano-PLC, as well as facilities for incorporating various control modules such as Bluetooth, WLAN, ZigBee, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, CANopen, DeviceNet, Profibus, Profinet, Nano PLC, RS232/RS485/USB, Process Control, etc.

New Compact Motor

The MAC motor sets completely new standards for the performance and size of servo controls. With a length of only 311.8mm for a 3000W motor with a torque of 9.55/28.6Nm at 3000rpm, this MAC motor matches the size of traditional servo motors without built-in controllers with flange 130x130mm. This has only been possible through the use of extremely compact motors and the development of electronics and mechanics that utilise the latest technologies and manufacturing methods.  So what about vibrations and temperature? As with the other integrated servo motors in the range (50-3000W), both the motor and all electronic components have been specifically selected to withstand the rigorous demands required by industrial use.

Power Supply and Energy Savings

Powering this motor is easy since it only requires connection of the main voltage of 3x400VAC through the M23 connectors. Control voltage for the encoder and microprocessor circuitry is 24VDC: In an emergency-stop situation, where an approved relay has cut-off the main power, encoder position and other values are maintained by this control voltage.  In some applications, however, this is not needed and in those cases an optional internal 24VDC supply can be used, requiring only an AC main connection.  Furthermore highly effective switching technology is used to ensure low heat generation resulting in appreciable energy savings.

Other Advantages

One of the big advantages of using the integrated MAC motors is that you don’t need to install a separate servo driver or controller in a control cabinet. This gives you many subsequent advantages: Space savings in your control cabinet, saving of expensive motor and encoder cables, saving time (and money) for cabling, noise is minimized due to internal cabling and also installation errors between driver and motor are eliminated.  In addition, service is much easier, since the motor and controller can be replaced as a single integrated unit. Hence downtime is minimized and production is maximized.
