Do you know the difference between these 10 types of servomotors?

Servomotors are generally used as a high performance alternative to the stepper motor. Stepper motors have some inherent ability to control position, as they have built-in output steps. This often allows them to be used as an open-loop position control, without any feedback encoder, as their drive signal specifies the number of steps of movement to rotate. This lack of feedback though limits their performance, as the stepper motor can only drive a load that is well within its capacity, otherwise missed steps under load may lead to positioning errors. The encoder and controller of a servomotor are an additional cost, but they optimize the performance of the overall system (for all of speed, power and accuracy) relative to the capacity of the basic motor. With larger systems, where a powerful motor represents an increasing proportion of the system cost, servomotors have the advantage….

Aces at scanning or precision positioning, slotless motors are hand down provide the smoothest motion available.  True sinusoidal torque curves seamlessly integrate with sinusoidal motor controller electronics to create fully controllable smoothly rotating torque vector.

These motors remain true to their ULT ultra-thin origins with very low profile construction.  They operate from industry standard brushless DC or brushless AC drivers from 12-300 volts and can be wound for low speed or high speed applications.

Another feature of these motors is low magnetic core losses.  Slotless motors in general are optimum for high speed operation, above 10krpm.  The frameless nature of these motors also allows them to easily be integrated into high speed spindles where they can operate with very low heating.

Applimotion’s LARC Motors for Large Diameter Direct Drive projects

Applimotion routinely scales its LARC motors (Linear Arc) for large diameter applications greater than 1 meter diameter. The modular nature of these motors allows them to integrate with large assemblies for scanning, imaging, and metrology applications where size requirements take priority over high torque requirements.

LARC motors come in modular pieces and will bolt into any large diameter servo motor application. The motors operate from standard brushless motor amplifiers from 24 to 300 volts. They work nicely with encoders, resolvers, or the recently introduce magnetic encoders for direct drive applications.

The LARC motors also offer very low profile design to fit into tight spaces where traditional motors have limitations. Applimotion also offers hermetically sealed magnet tracks and coil assemblies for vacuum or special environments.
